What actually happens when a detector trips
An alarm is only worth what follows it. Here is the sequence, from the contact opening to someone arriving on site.

Detection
A door or motion detector trips. The panel knows which zone is involved, not merely that there is "an intrusion".
< 30 seconds
Video verification
The camera covering that zone streams to the monitoring centre. A cat or a moving curtain does not trigger a pointless call-out.
< 1 minute
Alert
Notification on your phone, indoor and outdoor sirens, and calls following the protocol agreed with you.
24/7
Response
A guard or the police are dispatched, followed by a time-stamped report of the event and the footage attached to it.
